Ensemble Klangrauschen was founded in 2016 as the permanent ensemble of the long established concert series of the same name in Lübeck, Germany. Elizabeth Farrell – flute, Ninon Gloger – piano, Marie Yamanaka – viola and Heiko Maschmann – double bass came together for the first time for a chamber concert at the Kiel Opera House and immediately noticed that a special bond held this unusual quartet together. Other concerts followed and quickly led to the idea of a permanent formation. Since then, the ensemble has played together regularly to give voice to new and experimental music in the northernmost German state of Schleswig Holstein.

The four musicians have gathered much experience during their careers as soloists, orchestral musicians and ensemble players. Elizabeth Farrell performed and travelled extensively with Ensemble Selisih in Freiburg before moving to Kiel to take up the position of Solo a Piccolo with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Kiel.  Marie Yamanaka was a member of the Ensemble Platypus in Vienna before she became the assistant principal Viola of the Kiel Philharmonic. Heiko Maschmann is a member of Ensemble Reflexion K, he has played with Ensemble Resonanz,  the London Sinfonietta and Ensemble Modern. Working together with the Stockhausen Stiftung, he performed the premiere of “In Freundschaft”for Double Bass. He is also a member of the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra. Ninon Gloger is a founding member of the RADAR Ensemble as a pianist and artistic director.  In the formation “Triologue” she performs her own compositions in the genre of jazz/Avantgarde. She has performed as a guest musician with ensembles such as Decoder Hamburg, Ensemble Resonanz Hamburg and Ensemble Courage Dresden as well as extensively as an orchestral pianist with the Bayerischen Rundfunk, the Dresdner Philharmonie and others. She currently works also as an accompanist at the Music University in Lübeck.

The musicians have been involved in the premieres of many works and CD productions including solo and chamber music works and have worked with important personalities such as P. Eötvös, G. Crumb, W. Lutoslawski, P. Boulez and K. Stockhausen.

The concert series “Klangrauschen” consists of 6 concerts a season in Lübeck and 3 in Kiel. In addition, Ensemble Klangrauschen has performed at the Künstlerhaus Lauenburg, has worked with students in preparing and performing new works at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel, performed at the Blurred Edges Festival in Hamburg in 2020 and will perform at the NDR Hannover in 2021. The aim of the ensemble is to establish a long term relationship with its public through regular concerts, presenting and discussing new works and to create a space for new voices to be heard.  The programming encourages a curious public, ranging from new music connoisseurs to complete newcomers. We are committed to promoting young and yet unknown composers and artists from different cultural backgrounds. For this reason the ensemble commissions between 2 and 4 new works each season. During the season 20/21 we look forward to premieres from Rolf Riehm, Dieter Mack, Sascha Lino Lemke and Michael Maierhof as well as the premiere of two works from students of the Musikhochschule Lübeck, Benjamin Janisch and Kaspar Querfurth.
